Educational Philosophy

Affective: growth in feelings or emotional areas (attitude or self)” -Bloom, et al. 1956

During the Spring 2018 semester, I took my junior math and science practicum. Through my science class, I was reminded of how fun it is for anyone to experience science through hands-on activities. I believe that, as a young adult, if these activities were extremely fun and beneficial to me, that they will be much more exciting for younger students with naturally curious minds. Learning has to go beyond worksheets and simply memorizing concepts, and that is something I have gotten the opportunity to explore more.

Since July of 2018, I have been a member of a research team that consists of myself, Dr. Chyuan Pan and Dr. Anthony Conte from the TCNJ School of Education, and fellow TCNJ student Kristen DiGiacomo. Together, we are discovering more about Project-Based Learning, which we hope to share with TCNJ students. In short, PBL differs from the traditional project as it gives students a voice and choice in the project’s topic. This makes students more emotionally invested in their work and more likely to retain information, which aligns with the goals of affective learning. I am eager to incorporate PBL into my own classroom one day.
